I am a writer, singer, author, Professor, worshiper, speaker, and Clinical Psychologist.
I decided to pursue motivational speaking because I have a story to tell. A great story actually! In being a young adult, I understand how much life can be a roller coaster. While I don't have all the answers that might make our journey through young adulthood easier, I believe my unique experiences and perspectives will not only help you think about things differently, but will help those of all ages gain insight as we experience life!
As a Doctor of Psychology, I also bring a unique experience of being on both sides of the table as both a client and therapist. My presentations are dedicated to addressing mental health stigma within society, the field, and especially within the church. It is my hope that my talks will bring encouragement, empowerment, and a voice for those who suffer from mental health difficulties.
So as I engage in this phase of my career, I hope it is everything you, as a reader and listener need. As Revelation 12:11 says, we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
ABOUT DR. CONNELL
Lavonna was born in the mountains of Charleston, West Virginia and grew up in the metropolitan city of Houston, Texas.
She went to the illustrious Pine Forge Academy and completed her undergraduate studies at Oakwood University where she graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
She went on the pursue her doctorate at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio where she began pursuing opportunities to sing and be a motivational speaker. While many have come to hear her share her testimony and musical talent, she pays God respect as she says "I am only successful and alive today because of what God has brought me through".
Her passions? God and psychology. "No matter what I do, I serve God first. I know I am an example to others and I don't feel too much pressure because ultimately I am living to please God. Share His love. The love He has given to me. So if I'm pleasing Him, then no one can really say anything". About psychology: "It has been my passion since I was 12-years old. My life has become the reality of the books I used to read. Counseling those with a variety of mental illness and health concerns. People pay me for my time and prescence. Ha, that's awesome! But seriously, I'm not only there to be a therapist, I believe in being an advocate. I've struggled with depression and so much more. I have a unique perspective that many cannot claim. It is time for me to unleash my story, see where God takes me. In the end, He will always get the glory".
Lavonna has always wanted to pursue music and psychology and her time has come. She began singing in her church at the age of 10 and has sung for a variety of events including church services, weddings, special programs, Black history events, and receptions. "Singing lets you express your heart in a way that is unique to you".
For fun, Lavonna can be found traveling, relaxing with a group of friends, singing, and working on her many aspirations.
