WANDERLUST

My obsession with travel apps, snatching flight deals, daydreaming of 8+hour plane rides...are only a small snippet of what I have been afflicted with. Hello, I am The Traveling Psychologist and I have been blessed with wanderlust.

Chichicastenango, Guatemala

The road to Asia cannot come quick enough. There are many things to wrap up here in America. Good-byes to be said. Hugs to give. Conversations to have.

“To have wanderlust is to constantly debate with yourself whether or not that flight deal you found should be purchased. It is constantly trying to find ways to cut corners in some other area of your life so that you can invest more money into traveling. Wanderlust is the reason you have so little paid time off but so many joyous memories and experiences. Exposure to different languages, cultures, ideologies, and customs allows for one's mind to expand beyond what it might sitting right at home.”

After seven grueling, life changing (sometimes traumatic yet rewarding) years of graduate school, I have finally arrived to a place where I can live my life. Living my life right now means: working and traveling. Okay, there is much more to life but when you're trying to live life to the fullest, you have to find your passion and make those passions work for you. I have made psychology and traveling work for me. But now with Korea on the horizon, I'm hoping my wanderlust isn't the end of me. Like, what if I hop on a ferry from Seoul to Busan or catch a flight to Kuala Lumpur and just decide "hey, I'm not going back!" Okay okay, in all seriousness, I may not be able to just take an "extended vacation." But, to have wanderlust is to constantly debate with yourself whether or not that flight deal you found should be purchased. It is constantly trying to find ways to cut corners in some other area of your life so that you can invest more money into traveling. Wanderlust is the reason you have so little paid time off but so many joyous memories and experiences. Traveling really challenges your worldview. It opens windows to scenery you may have never been exposed to. Your ears hear an amalgamation of sounds, accents, dialogues that you may have never known existed. Your palate tastes authentic herbs and spices while your nose inhales the sweetest and most disturbing smells that linger with you long after you have returned home. When I think about traveling, I don't want to spend all my time being the tourist. I want to know the culture, eat the food, see where the natives live.

I try to limit myself on these travel apps. But Hopper just gets me so excited. If you saw these flight prices from Korea to Philippines, India, Malaysia, even Australia, y'all would probably be just as excited, and worried, as I am! LOL No worries, I will travel responsibly. Stay tuned for what's next!! In the mean time, enjoy some past wanderlust.
